April 2007

30.04.07 - The 2006 ICAD AGM took place.

Although advice from membership was taken on many issues the only motion to be put forward was: Proposal to extend the depth of the exhibition by including creative work that reaches a high standard suitable for exhibition, without necessarily needing to be nominated for an ICAD bell. The reason for this is to create an exhibition that encourages new talent and shows the industry a slightly broader view of the creative work from that year. This motion was carried.

The following ICAD members were voted on to the 2007 board:
Maria Bourke
Des Kavanagh
Mark Tuthill

2006 ICAD board member, Carol Lambert has been elected the 2007 ICAD President.

As there was no second nominee from the design industry, the board has been given the authority to co-opt a fifth board member on behalf of the ICAD membership. ICAD sees the fair representation of both advertising and design as integral to it's existence.

30.04.07 - Simon Richards of Huguenot Design is co-opted onto the ICAD board.

March 2007

14.03.07 - As part of ICAD's remit to promote creative excellence in Irish advertising and design, ICAD held a forum with top members of the design industry.

The principal issues that this forum explored were government tendering and the representation and perception of design within government and therefore society as a whole. As a result of this, the ICAD board has put into motion the following:

  • We are currently establishing an Advisory Panel that can look at the best ways for government to approach tendering without being anti-competitive. If you feel that you can bring ideas to this panel to help the design industry we would seriously encourage you to contact us urgently.
  • We would like to have a series of White Papers drawn up and are looking at the most effective ways of doing this. If you have suggestions on possible contributors to White Papers, again please contact us urgently.

ICAD understands that the issue of design and government has been a hot topic for a long time and is extremely difficult to tackle. However, we endeavour to work alongside Design Ireland and other organisations to push the issue forward. We are happy to directly represent your opinion so feel free to get in touch with your thoughts on this subject.
