The 2017 ICAD Upstarts Programme
Now in its twelfth year, the ICAD Upstarts Programme has continued to forge the careers of many advertising and design creatives, providing an unparalleled opportunity to kick-start careers. Originally stemming from the ICAD Advertising Workshops that ran in the late nineties until 2001 (read more here), Upstarts has always seen particular engagement and support from the advertising industry.
This situation is particularly exaggerated this year, with a record high number of advertising applicants but an unfortunately record low number of design applicants. There are therefore two significant changes that will be made to this year’s Upstarts programme – namely, that the design strand will be scaled back and streamlined, becoming a pilot for an internship programme, while the advertising strand will be expanded to a total of nine host agencies and 18 participants.
Once this format is tested, ICAD will communicate further with its membership on both the promotion and understanding of Upstarts and any future plans for an ICAD internship programme. Engagement with design studios will be invited.
The 2017 ICAD Upstarts programme kicks off next Monday, August 28. Confirmed agencies participating in the advertising strand are Boys and Girls, In the Company of Huskies, Publicis, Rothco, Target McConnells and The Public House. More to follow.
