We made this documentary when it emerged that by the age of 13, a huge proportion of young Irish women have given up playing team sports. The figure is a worrying 50% – or 1 in 2 of all young women. As sponsor of Ladies Gaelic Football, Lidl know that team sports are especially valuable for young women, who can face particular challenges in their teenage years. They face societal pressure to look a certain way, and behave a certain way. Their body image and self-confidence can suffer greatly as a result. To have 50% of young women denied the skills to deal with this pressure is something that has to change. We wanted this film to draw attention to the fact, and we also wanted to show some inspiring young women talking about what sport means to them.
