Vodafone 60TV – Team of Us – Who we are is what we play. The approach of the sound design of this with HADI was that we wanted full coverage of foley and SFX and also to use the music as a sound design tool. We wanted there to be a fairly even ratio betweens sound design and music. In order to make the music powerful in the mix, we let the music build softly till we reach a climax in the tunnel where we used subharmonics and psychoacoustics to give the effect of being in the tunnel, but also to be synced to the moment the team flash back to their journey to where they are. With low frequency effects and a tight music edit, we were able to achieve that moment. Throughout the commercial, the SFX are a mixture of foley, dialogue dubs and SFX with full coverage. Every sound, except dialogue was stripped out and replaced with better layers of SFX/ foley to give a clearer, more powerful mix. Overall, it was a long process, but I feel we achieved what we set out to do. The song has real purpose and grit and it’s own place, well balanced within the mix, as do the SFX. The feedback online was that there was an emotional response from watching the commercial and every comment came back positively.
